Every Equestrian - Naomi Leach

Welcome to Every Equestrian, our weekly blog series looking into the lives of 'normal' horsey people, seeing how they balance horses with the rest of their lives and hoping to show that we all have more in common in the equestrian world than we might think.

Hello! I’m Naomi and I run NL Equestrian. I’m based in Northamptonshire, and I teach Natural Horsemanship. I offer a number of services to suit my clients such as confidence building, problem solving, and goal setting.

What’s a typical day like for you?

I don’t really have a typical day, every one is very different! However I always start and end the day looking after my own horse, that gives me a bit of structure! In between, I fill the day with lessons and training, then I have one day per week to catch up on emails, social media etc.

Tell us about your horse of a lifetime

That would be my current horse, General Knowledge (aka Ginger). He’s a beautiful chestnut thoroughbred. I’ve belonged to him for 8 years now, and it’s been one hell of a journey, but I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished and the relationship we now have. He was my inspiration to help other horses and their owners, so I have a lot to thank him for.

What’s your least favourite part of having horses?

Mud!! And actually I don’t mind that too much, as long as I have a decent pair of boots... I really do love having horses. This is the first year in a long time that I’ve only had one, so it all seems very easy and relaxed right now! How long that will last, I don’t know...

What’s your 1 top tip for balancing horses with the rest of your life?

Planning. I live my life out of a diary, with set times and days to do certain things. I make sure to spend enough time with my horse, but allow one or two evenings a week to spend with friends, family, or myself.
